THE GROWING GAP BETWEEN THE RICH AND THE POOR

I was raised by parents that made minimum wage right up until their mid-forties and still managed to have a home for themselves and seven children. Statistically it was not possible. Unfortunately the gap between the rich and the poor seems to be growing wider with the middle class disappearing. Even though the minimum wage increased, our tourism industry had an outstanding summer and is looking forward to making more money through winter fireworks and the new light show. Can we not ask our wealthy city citizens to pay their employees a decent wage? I’m not sure that we all appreciate a donation that gives the donor bragging rights as much as we would appreciate that the person’s employees make a decent wage.
